A DRAMATIC rescue operation took place in Phang Nga province this morning (April 26) with skilled rescuers rappelling down a steep slope to pull up a cyclist participating in the “Tour of Andaman 2026” race after he plunged down the hillside, Naewna newspaper and FM91 radio said.
At 9 a.m. the provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office was alerted that the cyclist, Mr. Amnat (surname withheld), who had joined this long-distance cycling race, had tumbled down Khao Hin Lap hill while heading for Mueang district with this slope being difficult to access by normal means, FM91 quoted Phuket Andaman News Facebook page as saying.
The office immediately dispatched rescuers equipped with rope rescue gear to rappel down and assist the cyclist while working closely with rescue personnel from Bang Thong Subdistrict Administrative Organisation,
Under conditions requiring extreme caution, the rescue team managed to reach Amnat and then lifted him up the steep slope. He was rushed to Thaimuang Hospital for a thorough medical examination.
Officials are continuously monitoring the injured man’s condition and have coordinated with the organising committee to increase vigilance and step up safety measures on high-risk routes, especially curves and steep slopes, to prevent further accidents during the remainder of the competition.
