NEARLY 200 THAI NATIONALS have been found currently looking to return to Cambodia for jobs mostly suspected in relation to call-centre fraud, online gambling scams and casinos because they would probably anticipate border clashes between Thai and Cambodian forces which occurred far from their usual workplaces to alleviate and return to normal sooner or later, a police general said today (July 30).

Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau Commander Pol.Lt.Gen.Trairong Pewpan confirmed that almost 200 Thai migrant workers have so far applied at immigration units for their safe return to Poipet township across the border from Aranyaprathet district in eastern Thailand and elsewhere in Cambodia where they had earlier worked, including those allegedly hired by call-centre rackets and casino operators as soon as the armed conflict along the border has ended.

Only 74 out of those Thai migrant workers who had recently departed Cambodia for Thailand were reported to have decided against going back to that country for jobs following the border clashes between Thai and Cambodian forces which broke out last Thursday and despite a ceasefire formally agreed upon by both sides on Monday, according to the CCIB chief.

That most of those Thai nationals earlier employed at call-centre and online gambling sites as well as casinos in Cambodia have preferred to return to that country after the border clashes may have ended apparently underlined the fact that such illegal, vicious activities preying on unsuspecting, naive victims in Thailand and elsewhere around the world were still believed to continue to thrive over there despite suppression measures carried out by the authorities, Pol.Lt.Gen. Trairong remarked.
