A PILOT posted photos on his Facebook page showing the severity of the PM2.5 pollution at Suvarnabhumi Airport this morning (Jan. 26) with any aircraft not certified to land in this low visibility or pilots not trained to do so having to be diverted, Naewna newspaper said.

Captain Faisal said landing in this condition is a rough job for pilots and that Don Mueang Airport too was affected with some airplanes unable to land in this condition being diverted.

Of the three photos he shared, two of them, taken by his friend identified as Captain Khu Pun, show a plane parked at a remote bay barely visible through the smog (above and first below).

He himself too took a photo showing Bangkok “drowning in toxic dust” from an Airport Link train (second below).

The PM2.5 reading for Bangkok at AQICN.org at 6 p.m. today. was 120  microgrammes per cubic metre which is unhealthy. However it is lower than 160 µg/m³ recorded at 5 p.m. yesterday.

For the standard value of PM 2.5 dust, the average over 24 hours should not exceed 37.5 µg/m³. If it exceeds this, it is considered to have an impact on health.
