A THAI woman was severely cut on her chin with grass shears which her brother-in-law used to attack her after she scolded him for drinking alcohol, Naewna newspaper said this morning (Sep. 28).
At 5 p.m. yesterday Pol. Lt. Col. Nattapol Khamseeta, an investigator at Bang Bua Thong police station, Nonthaburi, was notified of a 65-year-old woman being severely injured in a physical assault and quickly sent Ruam Katanyu Foundation volunteers to take her to the hospital and Forensic Science Institute officers to inspect the crime scene.
At the single-storey house there was blood both at the gate and spread in a large pool within the house. The injured woman, Ms. Kanchanaporn, had a serious wound on her chin with there being a blood-stained 30-inch-long grass shears placed on a wooden bench.
Her brother-in-law, Mr. Suphakorn, 54, was seen in a video footage from a surveillance camera at a neighbouring house walking out of the house and riding off on his motorcycle after the attack as if nothing had happened.
Ms. Patchara (surname withheld), 25, a neighbour, said three persons lived in this house with the victim being the older sister of the perpetrator’s wife. The former often scolded the latter, who worked as a motorcycle taxi driver, when he got drunk and they had previously had a bad argument during which he had assaulted her.
He once got so badly drunk he couldn’t push his motorcycle into the house and she had to help him but he had never hurt anyone else because no one faulted him and he would not ride his motorbike when tipsy.
In the earlier assault Kanchanaporn was hit on the head but not seriously wounded with the argument again being about him drinking. However he often took the victim shopping on his motorcycle when sober.
Another neighbour, Mr. Chirasak, 45, said he came out to help the injured woman who told him that her brother-in-law had intended to cut her neck but that he did not know what they argued about.
Ms. Tu, 64, the attacker’s wife and younger sister of the victim, said normally her husband and older sister did not have any problems only arguing when he drank alcohol.
Her sister is usually not a talkative person but if her husband got drunk she would scold him at length, she added.
