IT WILL BE UNLIKELY for 30 million-plus Thai nationals to be granted a sum of 10,000 baht each during a second phase of the Pheu Thai-initiated populist handout campaign anytime within this year, Deputy Finance Minister Julapun Amornvivat said today (Sep. 24).

Out of a total of about 45 million Thais nationwide, an estimated 14.5 million people will be granted the money via their state welfare cards beginning tomorrow (Sep. 25) whilst some 30 million others will likely have to wait beyond the end of this year, Julapun said.

Of the total 14.5 million people, officially attached to the category of “fragile” people, some three million of them will receive the 10,000 baht giveaway via their state welfare cards tomorrow, followed by others daily, the deputy finance minister said.

Nevertheless, the implementation of the second phase of the government’s delayed handout campaign meant for the 30 million-plus people throughout the country will be unlikely within the fourth quarter of this year, beginning next month, according to the deputy finance minister.

It remains to be seen whether the second phase of the populist campaign will finally feature the 10,000-baht handout via digital wallets as earlier propagated by the Pheu Thai, core of the coalition government, at the expense of the 2025 budget.
