TORRENTIAL rain all night long led to Lam Takong camp at Khao Yai National Park, Nakhon Ratchasima, getting flooded  with tourists camping there having to quickly flee with their belongings but fortunately no one got injured, Amarin TV said today (Aug. 12).

Mr. Chaiya Huai Hongthong, head of Khao Yai National Park, quickly went to investigate and brought staff to help the tourists move to higher ground after floodwaters flowing down the mountains inundated the camp and flooded many tents.

Fortunately aside from their belongings getting wet, no one was hurt.

Chaiya said there was a thunderstorm and it rained heavily all night from 10,30 p.m. last night till this morning causing a canal to overflow and forest runoff flooding the tents where tourists were sleeping.

It has not rained this heavily over the past few days and the tourists did not think they would get flooded. Officials have now arranged a new camp with tourists no longer allowed to camp in low-lying areas.

Heavy volume of water is flowing strongly down from Haew Su Wat waterfall to Lam Takong dam in Pak Chong district. This dam is now brimming and people living nearby are watching the situation and have moved their belongings to a higher place in case they too get flooded.

Forest runoff is also flowing into Haew Narok waterfall.

All 24 Khao Yai units spread across the national park have been put on alert as there is now a lot of rain in all areas.
