A PROTEST convoy headed at Mr. Mano Kruakaew, aka Kamnan Mano, arrived in front of Government House’s Gate Four this evening (Nov. 8) and he took to the stage to call for elimination of “three shades of grey”, that is grey Chinese elements that have permeated the country, grey politicians and grey government officials, Naewna newspaper and Amarin TV said.

The People’s Revolutionary Front for the Defence of the Land had travelled from Krabi Noi subdistrict, Mueang district of this southern province where Mano is the kamnan (subdistrict head) to submit a formal request to the government to tackle the high cost of living, demanding an immediate 10-baht-per-litre reduction in the price of diesel

Their arrival drew the attention of supporters who had been following their journey. In his address to the crowd of supporters who had gathered at Gate Four, Kamnan Mano also invited other kamnans and phu yai bans (village heads) from across the country to join the protest and help tackle the problems faced by the people in their respective local areas.

Mano noted that the positions of kamnan and phu yai ban were established by King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) in 1914, serving as a pillar of support for the public. However, he lamented that many holding these two positions have since lost their way, becoming mere lackeys for politicians.

Mano added that over the last two to three days of their journey, many kamnans and phu yai bans  reached out to say they were on their way to join the movement.

“From now on,” he declared, “we will no longer be lackeys to politicians. We will instead become a primary force in looking after our fellow citizens.”

“I invite all kamnans and phu yai bans who are aware of this gathering to come and show your strength here. Let the public know that, from now on, we will no longer be lackeys to politicians. We care deeply about our country, our land, and our resources. Today, our nation is plagued by three shades of grey: first, the grey Chinese elements that have permeated the country; second, grey politicians; and third, grey government officials.

“The reason we are here is to eliminate and root out these three ‘grey’ forces. We must reform our nation. Let it be declared today: these three grey elements—these three tyrannies—must be purged from Thai soil.”

Kamnan Mano warned that if fuel price is not reduced, the demonstration will be escalated. He also acknowledged having spoken to former leader of People’s Alliance for Democracy, aka “Yellow Shirts”, Sondhi Limthongkul and is set to meet him tomorrow.
