PRIME MINISTER Anutin Charnvirakul and Digital Economy & Society Minister Chaichanok Chidchob are facing impeachment charges in court which could possibly warrant a loss of their ministerial status amidst allegations that they have been illicitly occupying part of Khao Kradong land in their northeastern home province of Buriram.

Anutin, who concurrently acts as interior minister and leader of the Bhumjaithai, core of the current coalition government surreptitiously steered by de facto party boss Newin Chidchob, as well as Chaichanok, Newin’s son who concurrently performs as secretary-general of the ruling party, are being charged for illicitly occupying the land which locates Chang International Circuit and Chang Arena sporting venues owned and run by Newin in the lower northeastern province.

The alleged misconduct is viewed tantamount to a severe breach to the politicians’ code of ethics, thus possibly warranting their being impeached and deposed of their ministerial status by the Constitutional Court.

Thai Liberal leader/MP Seripisut Temiyavej plans to file the impeachment lawsuit tomorrow (May 28) via the Election Commission to the Constitutional Court with a sole, fellow proponent being Thai Pakdee leader/MP Warong Dechgitvigrom. All other opposition legislators led by the People’s have apparently declined to join in the maverick Seripisut’s legal battle against the Bhumjaithai-attached prime minister and the de facto Bhumjaithai boss’s son.

Meanwhile, Seripisut today (May 27) formally petitioned the NACC to launch investigation into parallel allegations that Anutin and Chaichanok as well as Undersecretary for Interior Ansit Sampantharat and Land Department Director-General Pornpot Penpat have practically neglected their respective duties to see to it that the 5,000-rai Khao Kradong land be duly returned to the State Railways of Thailand, supposedly being the owner of the property.

If finally found guilty as charged in court, the prime minister and digital economy & society minister as well as those high-level government officials could possibly be handed terms in jail and ousted from power.

The Land Department had contentiously issued land title deeds for the Chidchob family and local villagers to occupy parcels of the disputable land since the last decades.

However, the People’s, the largest party in the opposition bloc, turned down Seripisut’s latest legal move against Anutin and Newin’s son, contending that they would constantly prefer to avoid involvement in legal battles which may decisively rely on judgments of any “independent” agencies such as the likes of the Constitutional Court, National Anti-Corruption Commission and Election Commission since none was elected by or connected with the people.
