A BIG search for two men holidaying in Thailand and getting lost in a forest at Koh Phangan late last night (Feb. 3) successfully found and rescued them with neither having been injured, Amarin TV said today.

The island’s District Chief Mr. Paisit Thongjerm was alerted about the two tourists, Mr. Boris Sand Responton, an Ecuadorian national, and Mr. Zachiz Hakberlinski, an Israeli national, getting lost in a forest between Haad Yuan and Haad Rin after dark and quickly assembled a search party with representatives from Koh Phangan police station, Tourist Police, the local administration, village headmen, Than Sadet National Park officials and Koh Phangan rescue volunteers to search for them.

This operation was a race against time hampered by heavy rain, steep mountainous terrain and poor nighttime visibility.

Furthermore, the tourists’ cell phone batteries had died after sending their last location which showed they were lost at this forest between the two beaches.

The two tourists were found after a cautious but wide search lasting over two hours. Both were exhausted from lack of food and water but uninjured with officials providing first aid then safely escorting them down the mountain.

The two tourists told officials they had been exploring the beautiful natural trails of Koh Phangan last evening but heavy rain and darkness prevented them from finding their way back so they called Tourist Police hotline 1155 for help and thanked the team for responding quickly and praised this hotline for its efficiency.
