ACTING Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai said he submitted a request to His Majesty the King to dissolve the House of Representatives and call an election since yesterday (Sep. 2), Thai Rath newspaper said this morning.
Speaking to reporters at Parliament building he pointed out that this step was taken because the democratic system has been distorted with a minority government headed by Bhumjaithai Party leader Anutin Charnvirakul being formed backed by the People’s Party which will not be joining the coalition.
This leads to there being three camps – Pheu Thai in the opposition, Bhumjaithai heading a minority government while the People’s would be wearing two hats – being both in the opposition and having clout in the government.
“The legal team believes power to decide should be returned to the people. It is a matter of Royal prerogative,” he said.
