THE THREE Far South provinces were hit by nine bombing incidents overnight injuring two people with this violence suspected to have been unleashed to mark the anniversary of Bersatu Movement, TV Channel 7 said this morning (Sep. 1).
Most of the blasts were in Narathiwat province occurring at approximately the same time.
Details are as follows:
– An explosion occurred at 7.50 p.m. on Highway 4056 in Narathiwat’s Su-ngai Padi district with two people getting injured and one vehicle damaged;
– Two blasts occurred at Narathiwat’s Cha-nae district with first going off near Dusong Nyo Mosque at 11.55 p.m. and the second at near Dusong Nyo market at 12.30 a.m. but no injuries reported;
– A bomb went off in front of a Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives (BAAC) branch on Phetkasem Road, Narathiwat’s Bacho district, at 11.55 p.m. again no injuries;
– Another bomb exploded in front of a Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives (BAAC) ATM in Narathiwat’s Cho Airong district at 12.05 a.m.;
– A bomb exploded in front of an ATM near Tamayung Subdistrict Administrative Organisation in Narathiwats Sri Sakhon district at 12.30 a.m.;
– In Yala there were three explosions after a tire was set ablaze at 11.56 p.m. with one being on Highway 4009 in Mueang district at 12.53 a.m., the second at an ATM in a petrol pump in Mueang district while a similar incident occurred at a petrol pump in Kabang district;
– In Pattani a bomb was set off at an Islamic Bank ATM in Mueang district at 12.15 a.m.
Yesterday (Aug. 31) is both the anniversary of the founding of Bersatu Movement and Malaysia’s National Day and it is likely that the insurgents marked the event by carrying out these attacks.
