A UNITED MINI-SQUADRON of the Thai air force’s F-16 Fighting Falcon jets and JAS 39 Gripen jets conducted another round of air strike against Cambodian army forces in a disputed border area of Thailand’s northeastern province of Sisaket this morning (July 26).

During a concerted sortie, a couple of F-16s and a couple of Gripen jets bombarded the Cambodian army forces around Pumakhua mountainous area in Kantharalak district of Sisaket.

An undisclosed number of fatalities and injuries were reported due to the latest air strike by the Thai fighter jets which returned safely to base.

Moments later, Thai army troops cleared the disputed area and seized weapons and ammunition left behind by the Cambodian troops who retreated across the border into Cambodia.

The Swedish-made Gripen jets set off the joint air strike mission yesterday whilst the US-made F-16s have successfully done their part since Thursday, the first day of the border clashes.

Thai army forces continued to repulse the Cambodian intruders whilst remaining on red alert in anticipation of sustained rocket and artillery fire across the border from Cambodia at any time, especially at night or during wee hours.

Meanwhile, the Thai Second Army Area today issued a public warning in regard to the disputed border areas in four lower northeastern provinces of Thailand, namely Baan Kruad district of Buriram, Karb Choeng and Panom Dongrak districts of Surin, Nam Yuen district of Ubon Ratchathani and Kantharalak district of Sisaket, of the possibility that the Cambodians might fire PHL-03 rockets from multiple rocket launchers from inside Cambodia onto Thai territory at any time. The Chinese-made rocket is reported to have a maximum range of 130 kms.

Thai civilians were advised to keep themselves updated with official news and prepared to take shelter and follow measures provided by the authorities.
