RUAM THAI SANG CHART leader Pirapan Salirathavibhaga might probably be named prime minister in place of the besieged Paetongtarn Shinawatra following the latter’s disreputable, erroneous handling of the Thai-Cambodian conflict, a partisan source said today (June 20).
De facto Pheu Thai boss Thaksin Shinawatra has been quietly encouraged to tell his daughter-turned-prime minister to step down and be replaced shortly whilst Pirapan, the titular Ruam Thai Sang Chart leader who concurrently acts as deputy prime minister-cum-energy minister, might probably be considered the one.
Pirapan was more or less anticipated today to advise the woman prime minister to resign and that she be replaced with one of a trio of Pheu Thai contestants for prime minister in 2023’s general election, namely Chaikasem Nitisiri, who is yet known to have poor health conditions.
But if the mega-billionaire, power-playing Thaksin deemed Chaikasem no longer fit for the elected premiership, the Ruam Thai Sang Chart leader himself would probably be considered as a new head of the Pheu Thai-led coalition government, the partisan source said.
The ultra-conservative Ruam Thai Sang Chart, earlier influenced by former de facto party boss/former coup leader-turned-prime minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, has formally resolved to not part company with the Pheu Thai-led government but to stay on condition that the woman prime minister step down and give way for the naming of a new head of government.
Given the possibility that Paetongtarn might resign, one of those persons earlier named as partisan contestants for prime minister could be named prime minister with a simple majority in the House of Representatives casting votes of support.
De facto Bhumjaithai boss Newin Chidchob would quietly lend solid support for a change of the prime minister by offering to have all Bhumjaithai MPs cast yea votes for prime minister for the likes of the Ruam Thai Sang Chart leader despite the fact that they are currently part of the opposition bloc following yesterday’s withdrawal of the Bhumjaithai from the Pheu Thai-led coalition, according to the partisan source, adding that if Pirapan was successfully named prime minister, Newin’s camp would likely jump onto the bandwagon of the Pheu Thai-led government again.
Paetongtarn who has openly refused to either step down or dissolve the House to call a general election for MPs has been vehemently taken to task for being overly naive and submissive to former Cambodian counterpart Hun Sen during last Sunday’s private, now-exposed telephone conversation between them pertaining to sustained Thai-Cambodian border tensions.
The woman prime minister’s comments evidently made during her chitchat with Hun Sen have been largely deemed “dimwitted” and detrimental to Thailand’s national territorial integrity and prestige, thus fueling members of varied sectors of society to call for her to manifest a political accountability by stepping down immediately.
