PRIME MINISTER Paetongtarn Shinawatra today (May 7) joined a press briefing on the seizure of 8.7 million methamphetamine pills and 720 kilogrammes of crystal methamphetamine (Ice) in Ayutthaya, Amarin TV said.
Pol. Gen. Prachuap Wongsuk, deputy national police chief, said this major drug bust resulted from further investigation undertaken after a trailer truck was caught carrying drugs for delivery to Ayutthaya in Nakhon Sawan on March 21.
This morning Provincial Police Region 1 searched a two-storey house in Bang Sai district, Ayutthaya, and found 8.7 million meth pills packed in 40 sacks and 720kg of Ice in 18 sacks hidden in a room on the ground floor.
They also arrested a suspect, only identified as Mr. Back, who confessed he had previously been hired to transport and guard drugs twice and used the money for personal expenses. He was charged with selling Category One narcotics.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister said she joined this press conference because she wanted to encourage police officers and saw the importance of suppressing drugs in the country.
From Jan. 1, 2025, till today a total of 7,961 drug cases have been investigated and 8,100 suspects arrested. Seized were 96 million meth pills, 3,496kg Ice and 42kg Ketamine. Assets were also seized totalling 389 million baht.
