AN ELDERLY Belgian man who has lived in Pattaya for many years was beaten up by four youths just as he was walking home from a bar soon after midnight last night (Dec. 25) with the gang then stealing 7,000 baht from him and zooming off, Amarin TV said.

Pol. Col. Nawin Thirawit, superintendent of Pattaya City police station, said this group of youths will soon be apprehended as a survelliance camera had filmed them as they attacked the victim, identified as Mr. Richard Ander M. Van Bogaert, 80, at The Village Pattaya housing estate at 00.28 a.m.

As the victim left a bar and was walking home the four youths who were annoyed with him for some unknown reason followed him on two motorcycles and cut in front of him.

They got off their motorbikes to talk to him but the injured man tried to walk away. The youths then hit him on the head with something heavy causing him to fall to the ground, stole his money and rode off.

Van Bogaert was able to get up and walk home and is today still undergoing medical treatment at Pattaya City Hospital.

His mother-in-law said he previously worked as an electrician and has been in Thailand for many years. He often goes to drink at the neighbourhood bars but she did not know what triggered the attack.
