FORMER Move Forward leader Pita Limjaroenrat declared while supporting People’s candidate in an Udon Thai local election that this Northeastern city, which many call the capital of Red Shirts, is actually the capital of democracy, Naewna newspaper said this afternoon (Nov. 16).

People’s candidate Khanisorn Khurirang, who is facing Pheu Thai candidate Saravut  Petpanomporn in the election for Nayok Or Bor Jor or head of the Udon Thani provincial administration on Nov. 24, unveiled six urgent measures to be implemented within the first year if he is elected.

These including making Udon Thani provincial administration, which has received has a budget of 1.2 billion baht per year, transparent and auditable; reduce corruption to zero; introducing electric buses to improve transportation; ensure clean drinkable tap water all year round; repairing unsafe and damaged roads to make sure that there are no potholes and have adequate lighting and CCTV cameras; and solve the drug problem through the drug-free community policy.

Pita. who is adviser to Progressive Movement’s chairman Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit and People’s campaign assistant, said there has been talk that he returned from US because he is afraid of losing this election but in fact he is not afraid because he has lost many times already while also having won many times too.

He mentioned in the 2019 general election Future Forward Party, the first guise of this camp, got 140,000 votes, in 2020 local election got 180,000 votes, and last year, Move Forward Party, which is the second guise of this camp after Future Forward was dissolved but likewise was dissolved earlier this year and reborn as People’s Party, got 220,000 votes.

“When People’s Party competes in an election it only means winning and developing, there is no such a thing as losing. When we were the Future Forward, in the 2019 general election we lost in Udon Thani district 1 but by only a few votes. Then in the 2023 general election Move Forward won the district 1 MP seat,” he said.

He also took a swipe at de facto Pheu Thai boss Thaksin Shinawatra accusing him of supporting this party’s candidate as if the camp was in  the opposition where its candidate had been at the helm of the provincial administration for 12 years.

He also asked that in declaring that Pheu Thai will ensure clean tap water does that mean the water has not been clean for 12 years?

He added that some people say Udon Thani is the capital of Red Shirts but for him this Northeastern city does not have an owner and is the  capital of democracy, of which there are many shades. Some people might choose Pheu Thai, others People’s Party while some Thia Sang Thai Party but local election is not like national election with people abroad or in other provinces unable to vote.
