THE Office of the Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC) is checking the hacking of Black Canyon chain restaurant’s Line account to determine the cause of the breach in order to resolve the problem and prevent it happening again, Naewna newspaper said today (Nov. 4).
A message was posted on Black Canyon’s Facebook page reassuring customers that all their information has been stored with the highest security measures with this being general information and not financial records.
This came after a hacker sent a message to the chain restaurant’s customers that they had stolen 958 GB of Black Canyon’s data including personal information about each customer with this being released tomorrow Nov. 5, along with sending a link as evidence with customers told to click it to contact them,
PDPC has told the restaurant chain to assess the risks that may affect personal data and report any breach to the agency within 72 hours as well as inform affected people so that they could take immediate preventive measures.
Dr. Siwarak Sivamoksathum, PDPC’s secretary-general, said in the first nine months of this year there were 342 complaints about personal data leaks from both private companies and state agencies. Of these 29 cases were in the financial sector, 23 cases in life insurance sector, five in telecommunications sector, four were online shopping outlets and 63 state agencies,
A committee is considering these cases with 273 still under investigation while 38 have been closed.
