RENOWNED Thai-born-Indian artist Asoke Aryapratheep launched an exhibition of a large collection of his recent paintings entitled “Suggestions” at Supples Gallery in Charoenkrung Soi 43 last evening (Sep. 21).
The opening reception was well-attended despite the rain with the artist, who is holding a solo exhibition at a gallery after over a decade, saying these paintings blur the boundaries between space, landscape and the semi-figurative
This series challenges the notion that art is purely a visual experience, proposing instead that it is also a mental one where each interpretation becomes an integral part of the artwork itself.
He has employed a diverse array of mediums – brushes, pens, inks, and unconventional tools like rolling paper – to craft complex textures and layers. These elements coalesce into abstract forms that hint at familiar scenes yet remain deliberately open to interpretation.
Asoke, 76, who studied Fine Art at Carlisle College of Art and Nottingham College of Art, has held numerous exhibitions in Bangkok, New Delhi and Berlin over the years.
This exhibition is on show at this gallery till Nov. 10, 2024.
