A BHUMJAITHAI MP said towards the end of the two-day debate on Pheu Thai-led coalition government’s policy statement delivered by Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra late last night that while his party backs setting up mega entertainment complexes they must not have any casinos, Naewna newspaper said this morning (Sep. 14)

Mr. Chaichanok Chidchob, son of de facto Bhumjaithai boss Newin Chidchob and the party’s secretary general, said while his camp does not oppose establishing entertainment complexes it insists they must not have casinos and opportunities generated from this huge venture to stimulate tourism be equally distributed to Thai people.

Bhumjaithai, which is the second largest coalition partner, would also support a move to tackle underground two- to three-digit lottery operations under the condition that the benefits go to the country and the people and concessions not be granted to certain groups, whether domestic or foreign, plus opportunities be equally divided as well as appropriate methods be used to control it.

“I believe that many policies that have been discussed are not easy (to implement), some things may be completed in this term, others may take several terms,” he said.

He also pointed to the challenges of accessing basic opportunities to generate income by the public particularly where selling electricity back to the utilities is concerned

At present, householders who have installed rooftop solar panels are able to sell excess supply back to the utilities on net billing basis, which is lower than rates the utilities charge, and currently set at 2.20 baht a unit.

Under the yet to be introduced net metering scheme this would have the same value as utilities charge their customers.
