A POLICEMAN and his six-month pregnant wife were shot dead while trying to arrest members of an oil smuggling gang with two later rounded up while the third one is being chased, Amarin TV said this morning (May 13).
Pol. Sgt. Maj. Sakon Banlu, 43, head of a platoon at Amnat Charoen provincial police, and his Laotian wife Mrs. Chansorn Pholjiam, 25, were found brutally killed in a four-door pickup truck about 4km from a road running through Si Maha Phot district, Prachinburi province.
Police quickly arrested two suspects, Mr. Thammarat Bhumma and Mr. Phichitpong Bhumala, who said that the third man who is on the run, Mr. Chaiwichit Bhumala, had shot dead the policeman and his wife after they burst in on them as they were buying oil in a forest near this road
Pol. Sgt. Maj. Sakon and Chaiwichit had started arguing with the latter then using a firearm to kill both the policeman and his wife. After that he drove the pickup with the dead bodies 3km further in the forest and abandoned it there.
Near the scene of shooting were found an AK47 rifle plus ammunition, .357 pistol and SIG Sauer pistol both with ammunition, a grenade and two air rifles.
Later Ms. Kaenchan Polkiek, 53, Chansorn’s Laotian mother, and her husband, Mr. Khamphu Polkiek, 60, together with relatives came to meet police investigators.
She said a friend had called to say that Sakon had been shot dead but only said her daughter could not be found. He later called again and told her that she too had been shot dead.
However she added that she already realised that her daughter was also killed because she went everywhere with her husband.
She urged police to quickly catch the killer and also ask him why he killed her daughter as she was over six months pregnant.
