DE FACTO PHEU THAI boss Thaksin Shinawatra today (Mar.27) categorically ruled out the possibility that his party might ever join Palang Pracharath in setting up a coalition government following the May 14 general election.
Posting on Twitter’s ThaksinLive page today, the deposed prime minister contended that the Pheu Thai will definitely set up a government of their own without possible alliance with the Palang Pracharath headed by Prawit Wongsuwan as largely speculated if his party wins a landslide victory in the general election.
Thaksin who has recently offered to put himself behind bars upon return to Thailand to serve a combined 10-year term on three convicted lawsuits said he has no power over the Pheu Thai rank and file despite public sentiment that he practically remains the party’s big boss whose daughter, Paetongtarn Shinawatra, is among a trio of partisan contenders for prime minister.
Ruling out possibility of a Pheu Thai-Palang Pracharath post-election alliance, Thaksin tweeted to say he had never made any personal contact either with the Palang Pracharath boss over the last 17 years or with deputy Palang Pracharath leader Virat Ratanaset who had earlier confirmed a “secret deal” had already been made between the leaderships of both parties to the extent that the de facto Pheu Thai boss agree to having Prawit run the country as head of a Pheu Thai-led coalition government after the nationwide election.
“If given more than half the total MPs, the Pheu Thai will not be stupid enough to hand over the premiership to Pom,” said Thaksin referring to Prawit by nickname.
The de facto Pheu Thai boss has earlier predicted the largest opposition party will win a landslide victory with as many as 300-plus MPs in the general election.
Only caretaker prime minister Prayut Chan-o-cha and the Palang Pracharath boss are speculated to get votes of support as prime minister from a majority of 250 senators, all of whom had been handpicked by the both of them following the 2014 coup, whilst none of the unelected legislators is expected to pick a Pheu Thai partisan contestant or any others for head of a post-election government.
