Pita, Paetongtarn running neck and neck for PM by Bangkokians’ choice: NIDA Poll

By Thai Newsroom Reporters

THE MOST POPULAR CONTESTANTS for prime minister after the May 14 general election, namely Move Forward leader Pita Limjaroenrat and Pheu Thai candidate Paetongtarn Shinawatra, have been found running neck and neck by Bangkokians’ choice, the NIDA Poll reported today (Mar.26).

According to the NIDA Poll conducted earlier this month among a total of 2,500 constituents from all walks of life in the Thai capital, 25.08% of the respondents have been found to prefer the Move Forward leader for prime minister after the nationwide election, closely followed 24.20% who have picked Paetongtarn, daughter of de facto Pheu Thai party boss/deposed prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

That compared to 18.24% of the Bangkok respondents who have opted for caretaker prime minister Prayut Chan-o-cha contesting the general election to retain power under the Ruam Thai Sang Chart tickets.

Meanwhile, 34.40% of those Bangkok constituents have preferred Pheu Thai contestants running in party-listed mode for MP, compared to 28.76% who have opted for Move Forward contenders and 14.68% who have picked Ruam Thai Sang Chart candidates, the NIDA Poll reports.

The poll has also found 34.92% of the Bangkok respondents prefer Pheu Thai contestants vying in constituency-based mode for MP, compared to 27.72% for Move Forward contestants and 14.32% for Ruam Thai Sang Chart contenders.
