AN UNIDENTIFIED foreign man drowned off Pattaya beach this afternoon (Mar. 19) with officials warning the public to watch out for strong wind and rough waves, Naewna newspaper said.
Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan radio centre was alerted of the tourist drowning at Nipa Lodge intersection in Nong Prue subdistrict, Bang Lamung district, at 2 p.m.and a team of rescuers quickly rushed there.
At the scene they found onlookers gathered around the foreign man of unknown nationality but around 55 to 65 years of age lying unconscious on the beach. A Pattaya lifeguard together with the rescuers and volunteers took turns in giving cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) but failed to revive him.
No identification papers were found on him.
Ms. Bang-on Somphan, 44, said she had noticed that the deceased man usually came to the beach alone. She did not see him drowning but two Indian tourists walking by did do so and helped pull him to the beach.
They then told her to call the authorities for help.
Officials urged the people to be careful as the strong wind and rough waves make swimming in the sea quite dangerous these days. If they come across an emergency they should immediately call for help.
