A LAWYER from the activist group Khana Lom Ruam Prachachon (Group for the Melting of the People Together) said at a rally in front of Central World department store this evening (Sept. 30) said he does not accept the Constitutional Court’s ruling that Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha’s eight-year tenure has not ended, Thai Rath newspaper said.
Mr. Nitithorn Lumluea, or Nok Khao lawyer, said the success today was for Gen. Prayut who together with two other retired generals, Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan and Interior Minister Anupong Paochinda, whose nickname is Pok, have been grouped together as “Sam Por”, or the Three Ps.
However it is a failure for the country and the people, he added.
Nitithorn also said at the demonstration entitled “Stop 3 P, stop coup, count one Thailand” that he was not surprised at the verdict as it was in his heart right from the beginning that this is how it would turn out.
He added that this gathering would not turn violent if the police did not use tear gas and the authorities did not intervene and announce emergency rule.
He pointed out that currently people are not participating in democracy and told demonstrators to go back and ask themselves whether in future things will be more difficult and they would have to put up with and fight more than they are currently doing.
Meanwhile Bangkok Governor Chatchart Sittipunt said after the ruling on Prayut’s eight-year term that no matter who is the prime minister, be it Gen. Prayut or acting Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) can work with anyone, Matichon newspaper said.
Regarding demonstrations, Chartchart said BMA had made preparations in terms of facilitating and arranging the location but security is a matter for police to handle.
“There probably won’t be any problems and unlikely to be any violence,” he said.
Asked whether the authorities will be less strict with the emergency decree being revoked from tomorrow (Oct. 1), Chadchart said that is a matter of stability and where BMA is concerned its duty is to facilitate gatherings in terms of toilets, hygiene and handling emergencies.
